Redwall and Salamandastron were great stories. Go Matthias.

Redwall was one of my favorite series. I saw Brian Jacques at a book signing. He had a very entertaining personality and was really excited to meet his young readers.

I didn't realize other books had so much food.

I loved the Redwall series! My friends and I actually learned the Royal House of Riftgard script [0] to pass notes in class. To this day I can still read/write it as an "alternative" alphabet.

More recent books are no slouch in this department; there are vivid descriptions of all kinds of goodies in the Harry Potter series, and the "Redwall" books are so well-known for their evocative culinary imagery that the author has added a companion cookbook: https://www.amazon.com/Redwall-Cookbook-Brian-Jacques/dp/039...

> To kids, reading looks terribly boring, until they actually find a book they like - then they devour everything in sight.

So important and always ignored. My mom read to us often, and I and my brothers hated reading. Later I encountered an Animorphs book and that was my gateway. One of my brothers, several years after that, discovered Redwall, and that did it for him.
