The book "The Untethered Soul" is very good if you're ever interested in breaking free of that.

This sounds a lot like the main idea behind the book "The Untethered Soul". Highly recommend to anyone interested in meditation, mindfulness, or letting go of everyday stress.

Right on!
I also enjoyed "The Untethered Soul" (Singer), "You Are Here" (Hanh), "A New Earth" (Tolle) and "The Daily Stoic"(Holiday)

There are a lot great comments, tips and tricks in here to help you cope. The only thing I’d recommend that I didn’t see here is to read this small book: The untethered soul by Michael Singer
It teaches you how to disconnect your Self from your thoughts and emotions and instead just to observe them. I found it a great read whether one is depressed or not.

The Divided Mind: The Epidemic of Mindbody Disorders

This book helped me get rid of the wrist tendinitis I had for four years prior, in four weeks. It also changed the way I view many of the chronic physical ailments many of us face.

The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself

A great book about consciousness and awareness that isn't too "froo froo"-y. It definitely has had a profound impact on my relationship to myself and my surroundings.

It's hard to define the impact this book had on me, but it was also profound. It's an autobiography of Lynnie Vessels who's father shot her mother with a shotgun across their dining room table. As depressing as that sounds, it's actually a very inspiring and strangely uplifting book.

The best thing I did for my mental health this last year was get the audio book of "The Untethered Soul." Interestingly enough, I found out about this book on HN last year. This is a fantastic book about spirituality that is really practical. I've listened to this book about 5 times all the way through and it never gets old.

The guy who wrote it is the real deal, not some random guru. The Surrender Experiment, his other book, is also good because it shows how he applied it all in his life to make him self a self-made tech multi-millionaire and to go through some pretty hard struggles and build a large spiritual community along the way.

Try reading "The Untethered Soul" by Michael Singer and/or "Letting Go" by David Hawkins. Depression could be partly due to an acquired habit of always paying attention to fear based thoughts (like lacking xyz), which came from evolution. The cure is to raise the emotional level of thoughts to love for self and compassion for others (by having compassion for others, you give it to yourself). Another cure is to not pay attention to the chattering of the mind. If you wrote down all the chattering of the mind, you may find that >90% of them are useless. Paying attention to the chattering brings more useless chattering.

All this sounds new age, but it works.
